ISIS - In The Absence Of Truth

2x****
Not really an expert on ISIS, but the album is similar to other ISIS I've heard. It's hard to describe what makes one song different from another, as there isn't much. "Not In Rivers, But In Drops"**** goes a bit in the Hum direction. The songs typically have vaguely tribal drum patterns with fairly clean spacey guitars which build to the death metal part of the song. "Holy Tears" on the other hand is slower and has a more straight time, and sounds closer to grunge. One problem with this record is that some songs take a long time to build to any sort of melody, such as "Firdous E Bareen". "Garden Of Light"**** is a dense festival of riffs that after the break goes into an Explosions In The Sky ending but on a runaway locomotive.
