David Bowie - ....Ziggy Stardust

4x****
For another one of the most iconic albums ever, I'm a bit disappointed that I already have most of the best songs on compilations. "Five Years" takes a bit to get going, but has a good anthemic ending. "Soul Love" and "Moonage Daydream" meander along as typical Bowie, until the latter ends with a big solo drenched in reverb. "Starman"**** finally follows a tight pop song. "Lady Stardust" is a conventional power ballad. "Star"**** rocks somewhat convincingly until it turns into a real rock song at the 'get it on' riff. "Hang On To Yourself" fills the space adequately, but can you believe we had to wait through 3/4 of this album before hearing the majestic opening riff of the ubiquitous "Ziggy Starbust"*****, followed by the propulsive "Suffragette City"****. Though it's tough to follow that one-two, "Rock N Roll Suicide" ends the story fittingly enough with a big finish.
