As I mentioned in my previous review of Adore Life, in general Savages frequently shares traits with  Siouxsie Sioux and more contemporary influence Yeah Yeah Yeahs. "Shut Up", "I Am Here", and "City's Full" certainly make a ferocious if monochromatic opening set. The album likewise continues in sets; "Strife" slows down to an evil stomp, followed by the deliberate, grunge-ified Joy Division "Waiting for a Sign." On the album's second half, Gemma Thompson's guitar steals the show on the album's best rockers; in "She Will"**** her memorable goth/new wave guitar melody culminates in a shrill grind in the chorus, and in "Husbands" responds to Jehnny Beth's lines with an abrasive whine. Savages cranks up the tempo on "No Face," driven by a Les Savy Fav/post-punk stuttering riff. "Hit Me" is  mostly just noise and shouting set to a double-time beat. The album closes with "Marshal Dear," a Nick Cave-inspired spooky-jazz torch song. Though repeating myself, I would apply my previous comments about Jehnny Beth not having the melodic sense of her genre-peer Karen O to this album as well.
