This LA-area power pop band borrows the tunes and soul (by the nice use of horns) of Big Star on album-opener "Lost Time" and "Mini-Skirt Minnie," while the laid-back groove and prominent keyboards of "I Want What You Got" remind me of Squeeze. The band cranks the intensity up with bar band energy on the peppy "Women", the rockabilly-influenced "I Want You Back," and the chiming "Everyday Things." The best moments on are the punchy "Zero Hour"****, which resembles early Elvis Costello, while the rocking "Hush, Hush"**** is extra-dense with melodic riffs and guitar interplay resembling The Clash.

The debut EP that preceded the first album features a brighter version of the great "Zero Hour"**** and a raging version of Otis Redding's "I Can't Turn You Loose"**** (complete with party sound effects). The mysterious "Hypnotized" isn't the strongest melodically, though the Police-influenced chorus riff is another interesting moment.

The "Plus...." tracks also include and an appropriately energetic live version of "Dizzy Miss Lizzie" and a roof-ripping live version of "Hush, Hush"****
