No real point for posting this review of the Pixies the debut mini-LP. There would be plenty of great songs after, but with the exception of "Monkey Gone To Heaven" it didn't get much better than the album's opener, from the forlorn howl "Caribou"***** to Black Francis' demented scream "Repent! Repent!." On the other end of the tempo spectrum are the frantic "Nimrod's Son", "I've Been Tired", and the hands-down best of the bunch "Isla De Incanta"**** (me voy me voy me voy!). Highlights aren't worth discussing - the album consists of mostly essential Pixies tracks, including "Ed Is Dead"**** and the energetic "Holiday Song"****, both punchy examples of the band firing on all cylinders with great additional vocals from Kim and memorable lead/riffs by Joey. The album's low-key closer "Levitate Me"**** is its sleeper-cell ear-worm, with Francis taking command of breakdown sections while leaving plenty of space to build tension.
