"The Good Old Days"**** is a strong start, a fittingly humorous bit of hindsight as it came 22 years after the last release from this pairing of Steve Wynn (Dusty) and Dan Stuart (Danny), and definitely a team effort. Steve Winn's title song**** resembles to 80's Lou Reed in tone and delivery, and is a buzzy, propulsive outlier for this album. The hazy, trippy "Warren Oats" (oh me, oh my, hate to bitch, don't want to die) also has a minimalist Velvet Underground feel. Speaking of the Big Apple, "New York Lullaby"**** combines Dylan-esque non-sequiturs (a lot like "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues") with a New York/Jersey Springsteen groove (listen to those saxes). The stuttering riff of Dan Stuart's "Raise The Roof"**** is the crunchiest part of the album, but Bo Diddly pounding brings the hilariously-titled "Hold Your Mud"**** on home. Then about half of the album, including "Last Of The Only Ones", "Thanksgiving Day", "Let's Hide Away", and the closer "That's What Brought Me Here" fit neatly into alt-country-Americana sound, but none are particularly great contributions to the genre.
