King Crimson's 7th album begins with a self-titled monster*****, an instrumental which makes up for its lack of verbiage with pure menace. "Fallen Angel" counters with a thoughtful ballad which gives way to louder arpeggiated chorus, similar to loud part of The Beatles's "I Want You, She's So Heavy". The power in "One More Red Nightmare"***** comes in the form of the very aggressive drum fills which counterpoint pauses in the guitar riffs, and force the point of an otherwise great song home. Closer "Starless"**** begins as a melodic ballad similar to "In The Wake Of Poseidon" which gives way to a simple guitar riff, ever so slowly building to a screaming alarm, introducing a frantic, jazzy instrumental. The only clunker here is "Providence", a series of noisy instrumental interludes which however strange and interesting does not a song make.
