Porcupine Tree - The Incident

Some of the most recent Porcupine Tree certainly does sound like Rush, at least Rush from the last decade or so ("The Blind House", "Drawing The Line"). Big riffs abound and big chords thunder and swell, but don't form much of a connection, although paradoxically the best parts of the album are the occasional slide guitar solos. Not that it's not all a big riff-fest, as there are many subtle moments as well, while others are unsettling, such as the creepily stark title song and the spooky percussion outro of "Octane Twisted"****. This album is divided into a 55-minute song cycle on one disc, and an additional disc with 4  songs 'outside' the song cycle, which I think contains a couple of the strongest tracks, the buoyant "Flicker", the angular, menacing "Bonnie The Cat". Oh, and the stuttering guitar riff of "Time Flies" the album's only 'single', resembles Pink Floyd's "Dogs" - a lot.
