How kids this young became so soul-infused I'll never know. It's kinda like Aretha Franklin covering Janis Joplin backed by Big Brother and the Holding Company, which is all backwards I know. Maybe some of the soul comes from the retro / ample mid-range production and vocals saturated with honking tube-y distortion. Either way the atmosphere pouring out of ballads like "You Ain't Alone" and the swinging rocker "Heartbreaker"**** is impossible to ignore. "Rise To The Sun"**** builds from subtle guitar lines to a full-on blaring carnival organ-driven chorus. Only the driving Kings Of Leon closer "On Your Way" eschews this heavy, grounded approach. Oh and the album also has the huge hit "Hold On"***** - you may have heard it once or twice.
