The Clash - Super Black Market Clash

keepers - 4
Super Black Market Clash is relatively easy to summarize. The first six tracks are all B-sides of singles from the debut album and Give Em Enough Rope, except for "Listen" which is from the Capital Radio EP. "Jail Guitar Doors", "City Of The Dead"****, "The Prisoner"****, and the energetic cover of "Pressure Drop"**** are all as good or better than any track on the two albums that contain the original singles. The next 3 songs from the Cost Of Living EP and "1-2 Crush On You" were released before London Calling, but resemble the polished 60's American-pop-stylized tracks on that album. "First Night Back In London" uses the sparse arrangement of Gang Of Four. "Stop The World" goes into outer space with an slow shuffle, while "Long Time Jerk" seems of the same spirit as "Should I Stay Or Should I Go", but none of the tracks after 1979 are essential. And other than these three the second half of the album is mostly dance-y instrumental tracks, more of the fucking around with delay and reggae heard on Sandinista, and instrumental versions of album tracks which are completely superfluous.
