Allman Brothers Band - Idlewild South

These guys just can't start an album. "Revival" is the kind of love is everywhere hippy dippy bullshit that would make great coke commercials, and "Midnight Rider" is just as boring as it is every other time I hear it on the radio. "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" is all loungy and mysterioso, but those parts are less interesting than the lead work that follows. while side 1 also includes a solid "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'"**** and has all the radio tracks, side 2 is all you really need. Clearly a band inspiration, Willie Dixon's "Hoochie coochie Man"**** is positively on fire, while "Please Call Home"**** is a pretty but more straightforward precursor to radio hit "Melissa". Closer "Leave My Blues At Home"**** is a good R&B-flavored departure for AB, so the leads can take a different direction than usual.
