Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Primary Colors

With production this dry it's best to keep it simple, and while it sags in the excessively sloppy solo and the unnecessary breakdown at the end, opener "Memory Lane" is catchy enough. "Sunday's Coming" succeeds with a fuller sound, and the sparse, angular guitar lines of "Colour Television" do a pretty good homage to.....Television. Unfortunately, side 1 is also broken up by dorky and dumb "Wrapped Up", with a kind of singing that Brendan S. can't pull off, and the instrumental "That's Inside of Me", which with this band's limited musical palette isn't too interesting. Fortunately side 2 is solid, especially the Buzzcocks in-your-face delivery of "Which Way To Go"***** and for the wonderfully sloppy circus keyboards in the dirty but silly "We'll Be Turned On"****. The maniacally staccato rhythm guitar of "You Let Me Be Honest With You"**** serves to build up the juice for the band to set loose at the end of each line. "I Don't Wanna Play No More"**** is like a twin bookend of "Memory Lane" but with the nice Velvet Underground piano banging away in the background, adding some color in the parts where the guitar pauses.
