National Skyline - This Equals Everything

"Some Will Say" sets a nice background music tone with the continuous chimes and subtle melody. "Day On The Beach" is not so subtle, topping the trippy and warble-effect vocals with a loud, buzzing keyboard in the bridge. For some reason all the better tracks are piled at the end of the album, starting with instrumental piano ballad "Make It Stop". "Cadence of Water" would have been ruined be being a big alternative single, as it's musically memorable enough for radio. "Look" would be a passable album track on a late Soundgarden with its dissonant guitar. Ending track "Grandstanding" continues a recent trend of placing uneasy tracks as album closers; it sounds good but ultimately too repetitive. There is nothing to dislike about any of these songs, but even the best ones don't evolve enough musically and their pleasantness fades into the background easily.
