Demons - Dekalb Fucking City

2x****
Loop-driven music is better with a sense of humor, such as the hilariously ironic title song**** (old school hip hop comes to DeKalb) and "Naked In Rockford"****, with samples of a 60's-style
advertisement. Opening "Document One" is driven by a cool eastern violin line, while "Tonight My Love" is a stranger combination of angular melodies. "Dig A Funky Grave" needs a funny MC, and pleasantly catchy "Heat Yeah" has all the ingredients of a pop hit. An album more consistent with this sensibility might be more relatable, though it wouldn't have the textural range of this album. This range may make the listen more interesting, but ultimately less memorable than it could be.
