The Flaming Lips - Fight Test EP

1x*****,3x****
The cover of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head"**** is unabashedly dramatic and orchectral, sold especially by Wayne's vocal. "The Golden Age"**** isn't far from Beck's peaceful original. Radiohead's subtly groovy "Knives Out"***** also gets the super-dramatic treatment, played here as a dirge pounded out on piano by Steve with some whines and squeals thrown in. "The Strange Design Of Conscience"** sonically and thematically sounds like an outtake from Yoshimi. Unfortunately the "Given the circumstances of our lives you'd have done the same thing" chorus is delivered awkwardly and would have distracted from a brilliant, cohesive album. "Thank You Jack White"**** is an amusing country trifle in the vein of "Put The Waterbug".....
