The Forty-Fives - Fight Dirty

1x****
Resembling Jet with more blues, the dominant sound here is the dry production. Opener "Trying To Get Next To You" shows the garage-y side with the maximum two chords and organ. "Out Of My Mind" is straight blues on Red Bull. "Follow Me Down" is the first breather with a Lenny Kravitz-style riff and hippie groove. "what A Way To Go" is another one of the crunchier numbers with a bit more interesting interplay of guitars and a familiar- sounding downward walking riff. Darkly psychedelic "Great Escape" is the hardest-rocking song here, almost like GnR "You Could Be Mine". But "The Devil Beats His Wife"**** is the toughest with the most exuberant vocal performance. "Never Gonna Leave Here" makes a good closer with the most interesting melodic turns and a 60's influenced bouncing rhythm, a fitting end to a shot of unadulterated garage rock.
