Arcade Fire EP

"Old Flame" opens this relatively intimate record with an inviting groove and good melodies, but backing off on every chorus kind of derails this momentum. Starting with an almost 'Lamb Lies Down On Broadway intro, "I'm Sleeping in a Submarine" was recorded a bit hotter and sticks to the same formula. "No cars go" is a rawer and somewhat quieter version than the later recording on Neon Bible. "National Woodlands" has a similar almost militant sound as some later stuff, but in a more rustic setting. "Headlights Look Like Diamonds" is the track that rocks most consistently but is dominated by some very loud vocals. Closing "Vampire/Forest Fire" putters around a bit before rocking out in a style familiar to all that listen to Explosions In The Sky, but not memorably.
