Mission Of Burma - The Horrible Truth About Burma

7x****
Consisting mostly of songs from the semi-post-humus Peking Spring, the Horrible Truth is an interesting document. "Tremolo" is meaty and serves as a good bookend to the coming storm, though it doesn't nearly measure up to "Trem Two"****. Title song "Peking Spring" is passably catchy, and "Dumbbells"**** makes some pretty evil noise. The momentum stumbles a bit with messy "Go Fun Burn Man" and "New Disco", which is "Dead Pool" but less powerful. Fantastic "Dirt"**** was later re-recorded on "On Off On". The high points of the show are the covers, this relentless version of "1970"**** making my beloved Stooges' version sound flat by comparison; likewise "Heart Of Darkness"**** is attacked with impressive energy. "Blackboard" again rides on a cool noise motif. The next four songs from Vs and Signals benefit from the energetic performance and end the album nicely.
