At The Drive-In - In-Casino-Out

"Alpha Centauri" exemplifies the best of this album with some cool guitar noise and a couple hooks, though Bixler's singing is awful by comparison. "Chanbara" adds all the screams to this, though the chorus is very conventional, and most of the rest of the album follows the emo conventions of wistful lyrics, soft verse / loud chorus construction, and other randomly placed melodic breaks, all with Bixler's tuneless screaming. "Pickpocket" at least is straightforward and efficient. "A Devil Among The Tailors" alone shows no sign of this mid-pubescent style with mean, atonal riffs throughout. But the last two songs as so especially weak that the overall impression of the album is nothing compared with what was to come.
