Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production of Eggs

2x****
Set up with its almost Flaming-Lips string intro, the casually dreamy "Sovay" certainly starts the album on a non-dramatic note. "Nervous Tick Motion"**** brings its memorably, straightforward melody, and some bigger transitions, building to the even fuller sound of "Fake Palindromes", whose most memorable hook eventually wears thin. "Banking On A Myth"**** prominently features spy movie guitar against eastern-flavored violin over a slowly rolling drums and a sparse harp line on violin. "Skin Is, My" starts with a similar plucked line but leads to a more mariachi feel."Masterfade", "Measuing Cups", and "Tables And Chairs" are very straightforward and pleasant indie-folk, while "Opposite Day" and "MX Missiles" are more elusive, but both cases are similar in that they don't assert themselves enough to be memorable. Closing "Happy birthday Song" leaves with pleasant orch-pop to rock you to sleep after an album mostly consisting of pleasant background music.
