Short form: Disappointment of the year.
After the fantastic Z, that is. The opening title song**** is by far the best, with nice melodic riffs throughout, though misguidedly sung in falsetto. Also the rollicking bridge comes off as forced. "Touch Me...Pt 1" is almost a direct rip-off of "One More Robot" by Flaming Lips, but is not awful. I don't need to elaborate on every critic's assessment of "Highly Suspicious". what the hell were they thinking? "I'm Amazed" on the other hand is the other extreme, a product of some MMJ song cookie-cutter. Though it has some good lines, its tune is uninspired and its simplicity ultimately does it in. "Thank You Too" and "Sec Walkin" - Jesus what is this, soft love hits? "Librarian" has a nice mellow country sound, but the sexy librarian is hopelessly cheesy and could have been much better with more thought. "Aluminum Park" is just "What A wonderful Man" with different words, cranked out for those that don't have Z I guess. "Remnants" is the hardest rocking but not very inspired. Album closing "Touch Me....Pt 2" is interesting, spooky, 80's-style keyboard driven but again not one of their better songs. Shark: jumped.
