Chris Whitley - Living With The Law

2x****
Largely middle of the road rustic pop, with some unique sounds thrown in. Some songs do have some brilliantly recorded lead guitar, such as in the opening title song. "Big Sky Country" minimizes the good factors with a lightweight, radio-friendly soon to be commercial tribute to the outdoors. "Kick The Stones" shows the bluesy side with Dobro and driving toms, and "Make the Dirt Stick" is sparse with the slide. "Poison Girl" is a decent straightforward rock song. "Dust Radio"**** builds to a long Neil Young Crazy Horse outro. "I Forget You Every Day"**** also ends on a high note with snarly lead guitar. "Long Way Around" is filled with heavily delayed guitar solos. Closer "Bordertown" is the tougher, but still radio-ready country-tinged bookend to "Big Sky Country".
