Alice Cooper - Along Came A Spider

1x****
The opening "I Know Where You Live" is catchy in a radio-friendly way, with a sound that is a Presidents Of The United States Of America-garage sound, but muddled by dense production and unnecessary layers of vocals, with more or less is a problem with most of this concept album. "Vengeance Is Mine" more straightforward grunge-metal, like mid-90's Motley Crue, or when Alice Cooper was in the metal phase. Most of the rest of the songs are melodic pop grunge rock. For those that loved Jackyl, this familiar sound will be comforting, and while appropriate for the narrator's lecherous caterwauling, this sound and subject matter have been covered. While there is a musical complexity and sense of humor that Jackyl could never dream of, and the overall guitar sound is not awful, the appeal is limited. "Salvation" comes close to a classic theatrical Alice sound, and will probably bring out the lighters. "I Am The Spider"**** wraps up the album concept nicely with the final revelation of the predator, sounding similar to early Marilyn Manson, while the narrator's creepy "Epilogue" is macabre but funny, like we'd expect from Vince.
