Talking Heads - Remain In Light

3x****
The elements of this record are similar to Fear of Music, but taken to its illogical conclusion. "Born Under Punches" is similar to "I Zimbra", except with the vocals and solos peeking out from behind the rhythms until the theme comes in near the end. "Crosseyed And Painless" comes off as too typical a Talking Heads song. "The Great Curve"**** is similar, with parts that mostly repeat throughout the song, but with cool multi-part vocals, until a nice jarring heavily effected guitar solo comes in. The major pop hit "Once In A Lifetime"**** follows, while "Houses In Motion"**** is more understated except for a hooky chorus vocal. The rest of the album is pure experimentation. "Seen And Not Seen" is mostly softly spoken vocals over sound effects, while "Listening Wind" is vocally more Sting-like, but similarly strange. Similar to "Drugs" on the previous record, "The Overload" is dark, Eno-esque closing moan.
