Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends

2x****
No song on this album is really derivative, except of a vaguely 90's emo sound. "Pots & Pans" begins the album like a tribute to U2 and The Clash. "The Equestrian" is like middle of the road Jawbox, with a familiar emo bridge. "The Year Before The Year 2000" continues the Jawbox/emo theme, but "Patty Lee" has more of a staccato new wave feel. "What Would wolves Do" also has a bit of an 80's feel, but more Aha/Flock of Seagulls, or more specifically an uptempo Arcade Fire song. "Brace Yourself"**** finally is completely unfamiliar, with a strange melody throughout, but with the spirit of the Clash. "Slugs In The Shrubs"**** is like The Dismemberment Plan after listening to U2's War for 12 hours, with a riff like a siren and some pretty militant vocals. "Comes And Goes" is a lone acoustic song, somewhere between Midnight Oil and the Jam. The album ending "The Lowest Bidder" continues the vague emo theme except with a minor James Bond riff.
