T.Rex/Tyrannosaurus Rex - 20th Century Boy

1x***** 4x****
Early songs "Deborah" and "One Inch Rock" more or less resemble folky Donovan. "King Of The Rumbling Spires"**** is far from that, a thumping, chugging, fuzz guitar jam, like early Flaming Lips (15 or so years later). "Elemental Child"**** likewise is a loud, pulsing, percussionless guitar fest, which goes into a fast solo after a couple verses. "Ride A White Swan"****, single from 1970, and the first song on the disk actually credited to T.Rex, is more swinging, in the direction of the Kinks. Following are a forgettable hippie singalong version of "Summertime Blues" and similar "Jewel". "Beltane Walk" is a shrill, string heavy pop song. From Electric Warrior are rather lazy "Hot Love", the ubiquitous dirty-sweet "Bang A Gong", "Raw Ramp" another silly rocker in 3 parts. In one he's crazy about your breasts. Also is the rather mellow, floaty "Cosmic Dancer" (sung donced), and one straightforward riff in "Jeepster"*****. From the Slider, "Telegraph Sam" is close facsimile of "Bang A Gong". "Metal Guru" is similarly fun and slight. The title song****, on the other hand, has a slinky groove that is made to move yer pelvis. "Children of the Revolution" is similar rhythmically, but more obvious and grating. "Solid Gold Easy Action", "Born To Boogie", and "I Love To Boogie" are about what they sound like. "20th Century Boy" is a last loud (glam) rocker from 1973.
