I've heard this compilation is highly regarded, but none of these songs come close to the smoothness that followed on Moon Safari. There are neat effects and a very dense sound to be sure, but the amazing melodies such as "La Femme d'Argent" or the huge pop sound are not here. "J'Ai Dormi Sous L'Eau"**** alone moves beyond the main riff as a song. "Brakes On" seems separate from the French synth pop sound entirely and is more straight dance pop. Perhaps my assessment is skewed by such an outstanding basis for comparison, but there it is.
